Kensington Park Townhouses

Project Objectives

  • One collection, six personalities
Give every home its own character, while keeping all six clearly part of the same development.
  • Designed for everyday living
Choose finishes that look refined and are practical for everyday living.
  • Timeless, not trend-led
Create interiors that will still feel right in twenty years' time.
As a designer, Kate has always been inspired by the timeless Hamptons style upon which Kensington Park has been built: its coastal elegance, relaxed sophistication, and enduring charm. For this project, her vision was to elevate that classic aesthetic, creating spaces that capture its spirit while allowing future homeowners to express their own personalities. With furnishings and final touches to be added by each new owner, the foundations already reflect a strong ethos of individuality and attention to detail.

A Home for Every Personality

Although these homes are yet to be furnished, Kate wanted each townhouse to feel distinct, providing a foundation for homeowners to make their own. The architecture embraces the Hamptons aesthetic, while subtle differences in materials and finishes give each home its own character within a cohesive project.
One townhouse might take a more traditional direction, with rich wood flooring and classic details, while another offers a lighter, more contemporary interpretation. The goal was to welcome different tastes and lifestyles, leaving homeowners room to bring their vision to life through furniture, artwork, and decor.
Kate believes a home should reflect the people who live in it. Whether they favour traditional warmth or contemporary simplicity, each townhouse offers a flexible canvas that can evolve with its inhabitants.

"I wanted each townhouse to feel inherently distinct, offering a foundation that allows for individuality once the homeowners move in."

Rich Materials, Thoughtful Details

At the core of Kate's approach is an emphasis on materials and finishes that tell a story. Natural, high-quality materials are central to Hamptons design, and she wanted to introduce variations that give each townhouse its own identity. Warm whites, soft greys, and sandy neutrals echo the surrounding native bush, creating a peaceful backdrop for the furnishings each homeowner will choose.
Texture plays an equally important role. Natural wood flooring, earthy tiles, and stone benchtops establish an elegant, inviting foundation. These finishes bring personality to the spaces while remaining versatile enough to complement each owner's style.
The European Oak floorboards from Vidaspace were selected for their colour range, depth of character, and sustainable sourcing. Their hard-wearing Ultra Matte UV lacquer finish also offers durability. From rich chocolate in House 1 to a greyed-off blonde in House 6, the flooring became the starting point for each scheme, with the remaining selections built upon it, layer by layer.

Kitchens Designed for Real Life

For the kitchens, durability was paramount. As someone who loves cooking, Kate appreciates cabinetry and benchtops that stand up to daily use. The StyleLite TruMatte cabinetry offers a soft matte finish resistant to scratches, stains, moisture, and fingerprints, the last being a particularly welcome feature! Its non-porous surface also makes cleaning easy.

The Silestone Quartz benchtops combine premium minerals and recycled materials in a low-silica surface, bringing together sustainability and performance. Colours with subtle veining and texture were chosen for each home, then carried through into the splashback tiles to create a considered relationship between surfaces.

Smaller details are just as important to the overall scheme. Cabinetry handles and bathroom accessories coordinate with the brushed nickel tapware, creating consistency throughout. Choosing this finish over chrome or black was a deliberate step towards a timeless aesthetic that homeowners can enjoy for years, without relying on passing trends.

"Steering away from chrome or black was important for me in order to maintain a timeless aesthetic to be enjoyed for years to come... no design fads necessary."

Bathrooms With a Contemporary Hamptons Edge

Bathrooms offer a wonderful opportunity to explore the interplay between surfaces. Large-format tiles were chosen for their textural depth, pattern, and colour, then paired with a slightly deeper paint tone on the tongue-and-groove feature walls. These combinations create richness while retaining the calm, welcoming feel of the wider scheme.

While the bathrooms acknowledge classic Hamptons style, Kate has given them a more contemporary edge. Fluted baths and basins provide a real WOW factor, complemented by back-lit recessed shelving above the baths and within the showers. These details bring practicality and aesthetics together, making the spaces as enjoyable to use as they are to look at.

Lighting and Finishing Details

Carefully considered lighting is integral to how a finished home feels. It can bring warmth to a room or create a subtle evening glow. Alongside the recessed shelving, LED strip lighting beneath the kitchen toe-kicks introduces a sense of luxury in the evenings and on darker days, a low-power design feature that Kate considers worth its weight in gold.

The kitchen pendants add another layer of personality. As well as providing task lighting, their designs bring flair to the open-plan kitchen, dining, and living areas. From fluted opaque glass to handblown amber shades, each selection complements the home's individual palette and atmosphere.

Throughout the project, these choices were considered together. Flooring, cabinetry, tiles, tapware, and lighting each contribute to a scheme that feels cohesive, with enough variation to ensure every townhouse has a character of its own.

The Power of Potential

What excites Kate most about this project is the potential each home holds. The architectural elements and finishes are in place, but the furnishings, artwork, and accessories will bring another layer of personality. Each space has been designed to feel open, inviting, and adaptable to a variety of styles.
These six townhouses bring together timeless design and the freedom for personal expression. From the richness of the materials to the subtle differences between schemes, Kate's focus has been on creating homes that balance sophistication with individuality.
With construction complete, the foundations are there for each townhouse to become a deeply personal home, one that captures the essence of the Hamptons while welcoming the unique style of the people who will call it their own.
